The new 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty equipped with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engine averages an 18 percent improvement for pickup models and up to 25 percent improvement for chassis cabs in fuel economy when compared with previous 2010 models. Trucks equipped with new base 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine average a 15 percent improvement versus 2010 models.

The new Ford F-Series Super Duty Power Stroke diesel engine is also B20 biodiesel compatible and the new gas engine is E85 (ethanol 85) compatible, which provides customers a wide range of fueling options. Towing capacity is also enhanced up to 26,400 pounds and a 6,520-pound payload, which is largely due to the all-new 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission.  All overall fuel economy is also improved by more than half.

The 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty Power Stroke should is  available at Ford dealerships by late of 2010.

The Ford F-450 Super Duty pickup comes in a Crew Cab body style with an 8-foot bed and dual rear wheels for greater weight handling and stability. Two- or four-wheel drive and three trim levels serve a variety of needs: base XL, midlevel XLT and luxurious Lariat. The XL is intended as a bare-bones work truck, with the step-up XLT providing more creature comforts and powered accessories. Top-level Lariats come fully equipped with leather and dual-zone automatic climate control. Lots of options are available, including reverse park assist, power-adjustable pedals, a moonroof, a navigation system and rear-seat DVD entertainment. The King Ranch Package really dresses things up with two-tone paint, 20-inch alloy wheels and western saddle-style leather seating and trim. The Harley-Davidson edition adds a unique blue-flame paint job and matching interior trim to the Lariat, while the Cabela’s FX4 package adds two-tone paint, Cabela’s embroidered seats and decals to the XLT FX4.

2011 F-450 Super_Duty

Powering the Ford F-450 is a 6.4-liter turbodiesel V8 that makes 350 horsepower and a massive 650 pound-feet of torque. It’s hitched to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional five-speed automatic. Properly equipped, an F-450 Super Duty can tow up to 24,500 pounds and carry up to 6,000 pounds. Antilock disc brakes are standard, but you won’t find side or head curtain airbags anywhere on the list.

The cabin displays a rugged industrial theme, and materials quality is generally good. Chrome accents surround the gauges and air vents, while the center stack puts controls within easier reach. Dual door pockets and a massive center console/armrest provide plenty of storage. In fact, for those mixing work with pleasure, the console box is now large enough to accommodate a laptop and/or hanging files. Folding the rear seats up reveals a flip-out utility shelf that keeps the load floor flat.

For such a mammoth vehicle, the Ford F-450 is relatively easy to maneuver, thanks in part to its specialized front suspension that allows a tight turning circle. Still, dealing with traffic and parking lots can be a chore, as its front end is considerably wider than that of its lighter-duty stablemates. An unladen F-450 has a very stiff ride, but with a trailer hooked up the ride smoothes out considerably. The PowerStroke turbodiesel performs admirably under all conditions, especially with an oversize trailer while chugging up 6-plus-percent grades. If you need this kind of capability, know that it’s simply the most capable tow vehicle we’ve ever tested.

These numbers matter because our customers say they do. The higher torque means that oil and gas crews in Houston can tow up an 8,000-foot grade maintaining a steady speed and using less fuel.

The upgrade program will begin by Aug. 31 and continue for the next 12 months. The 2011 Super Duty diesel pickups in dealer inventory will receive the upgrade as well.

Here are 6 important point about the 6.7 Diesel

1. First use of a compacted graphite iron (CGI) engine block in a Super Duty-class vehicle in North America; stronger than cast iron, Ford has successfully used CGI in engine blocks in products around the world. The block structure was optimized for reduced weight and maximum strength to meet the demands of higher torque and horsepower.
2. Unique inboard exhaust and outboard intake architecture, an automotive-industry first for a modern production diesel engine, reduces overall exhaust system volume, which leads to better throttle response for the customer; additionally, reduced exhaust system surface area minimizes heat transfer to the engine compartment and improves NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) performance.
3. The new engine architecture enables easier service work for all major engine components, potentially reducing downtime. On turbocharger service, for example, the body/cab no longer has to be removed from the frame to access the turbo; also, the high-pressure fuel pump, EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) components and thermostats are directly accessible from the front of the vehicle.
4. Honeywell’s VNT™ (variable nozzle turbine) DualBoost turbocharger features an industry-first dual-sided compressor wheel that works in a single housing. The unit is uniquely center-mounted on a pedestal low in the back of the valley for improved NVH. This turbocharger design allows the single unit to deliver the benefits of a twin-turbocharger system in a smaller, more efficient package, combining the advantages of a small turbocharger (faster response) and a large turbocharger (ability to compress and force more air into the engine for more power) in one unit.
5. The high-pressure Bosch fuel system injects fuel at more than 29,000 psi. The system delivers up to five injection events per cylinder per cycle using eight-hole piezo injectors to spray fuel into the piston bowl. The direct-injection system is calibrated and phased for optimum power, fuel efficiency and NVH performance.
6. Aluminum cylinder heads for reduced weight; the mid-deck construction with dual water jackets provides increased strength and optimal cooling; also, six head bolts, instead of four as found on other engines, help improve sealing and maintain cylinder integrity. o Compatible up to B20 fuel, allowing greener fueling options of up to 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel. The new Super Duty debuted not only with a new diesel engine, but with a new heavy-duty TorqShift™ six-speed automatic transmission. As experience was gained building the new powertrain, engineers continued to test components, check data and seek optimizations.

Ford F-250 Super Chief

Ford designers have introduced a new supercharged v-10 engine with a tri-flex fueling system that allows users to enjoy a choice of three different fuels including gasoline, E85 ethanol or hydrogen. Because the Super Chief offers these choices drivers have the comfort of knowing they can still find fuel as the ethanol and hydrogen infrastructures are developing. In a tri-flex fueling system owners can utilize any or all of these fueling options using the same engine and only the flip of a switch.

The tri-flex fueling system on the Ford F-250 Super Chief allows operators to go 500 miles between total refueling with the supercharger activated only when using the hydrogen fueling system. The hydrogen system also provides 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The transfer between fueling options is performed through a switching system onboard and can be accomplished while the vehicle is running. The hydrogen based fuel alternative boasts 12-percent greater fuel efficiency when compared to either of the remaining fueling options. Using hydrogen also provides 99-percent less CO2 emissions than the gasoline-only option.

While the tri-flex system is a new concept at Ford, the automaker has been committed to providing customers with a flex-fueling system in their F-150 models for 2005 and 2006 that allows either unleaded or E85 to be used in the same tank. The tri-flex system is a bold proclamation by Ford that hydrogen may be the next readily available fuel supply for the world and they are ready to roll with the roll out.

The Ford F-250 Super Chief also offers a couple of different innovative safety features worth mentioning. The Super Chief’s Beltminder technology lets the driver know when any of the passenger seat belts are unbuckled, even in the rear seat. The Super Chief’s Blockerbeam technology is a frontal crash under ride protection system that not only protects passengers in the hydrogen truck but also protect cars in case a frontal impact occurs. The frame-rails and L-brackets help to prevent cars from sliding underneath the higher riding truck and help to disperse energy during a crash.
